Born Arden Lim Cho on August 16, 1985, in Amarillo, Texas, Cho is Korean American and spent portions of her childhood in Texas before her family eventually moved to Minnesota. She graduated from Apple Valley Senior High School in 2003 and later attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2007. Psychology might seem an unusual beginning for someone destined to battle supernatural creatures on television, but understanding human behavior probably isn't the worst preparation for Hollywood. Cho's childhood and teenage years included a broad assortment of interests. She studied music, including piano and cello, participated in sports and cheerleading, and trained in martial arts. Those interests would later prove useful as she moved into modeling, music and acting rather than following a conventional career connected to her university degree. After college, Cho pursued opportunities in entertainment and modeling. She appeared in commercials and print campaigns and gradually accumulated television and film work. For Cho, the significance extended beyond simply landing another acting job. She subsequently joined another major fantasy property when she appeared as June in Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
